Win match in straight sets
COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs volleyball team will play for the district championship after defeating the Chewelah Cougars in straight sets.
The match was played on Wednesday, Oct. 25, and was played in Colfax.
In the match, the Bulldogs comfortably took the first and third sets. The second set was close, but the Bulldogs squeezed out the victory.
Set scores in the match all favored Colfax: 25-13, 25-18, 25-14.
In the first set, Ava Swan led the way with six kills. The Bulldogs jumped to an early 11-4 lead before the Cougars called a timeout.
After the timeout, the Bulldogs went on a huge run, led by excellent serving from Brenna Gilchrist. The Cougars took another timeout down 20-9, then lost the set 25-13.
In the second set, Swan turned it up once again, producing nine kills in the set.
This set was closer, with both teams tied at four, eight, and 12, before the Bulldogs took the 18-14 lead. Colfax would then win the set 25-18.
In the third set, Colfax started with a 7-0 lead. Swan would have four more kills in the set, and Gilchrist and Lola Hennigar helped on the offensive end to lead Colfax to a 25-14 set victory.
The Bulldogs will play their next game on Thursday, Oct. 26. The game will be played at Northwest Christian High School and will start at 6:45 p.m. The game will be played against either Lind-Ritzville-Sprague or Northwest Christian.
Win or lose, the Bulldogs advance to a winner-to-state crossover game on Saturday, Nov. 4.
