Viking volleyball go 1-1 in play over week

The end of the volleyball regular season is near, with district play looming.

District play starts Monday, Oct. 30, and the Garfield-Palouse Vikings have three regular season games left.

The Vikings had match ups against the Oakesdale Nighthawks and Dayton Bulldogs before playing their final game of the regular season Tuesday, Oct. 24.

The Vikings started their week with a game against number one Oakesdale.

The game was played Tuesday, Oct. 17, and was in Palouse.

The Nighthawks jumped out to three quick set victories in the match.

The Vikings did not manage to score more than 13 points in any of the three sets, they scored 13 in the first and third sets.

Set scores in the match all were in favor of the Nighthawks: 25-13, 25-11, 25-13.

The Vikings fall to Oakesdale for the second time this season, the same result as every other team in the district has this season.

In the game, Payton Davis led the Nighthawks with 20 kills and seven digs.

Setter Samantha Holling had 33 assists in the match.

After the game against the Nighthawks, the Vikings had a game against the Dayton Bulldogs.

The match was a tight end-to-end game, with the Vikings sweeping the Bulldogs, but it was no easy feat.

Although the Vikings earned the sweep, they fought for every set. Dayton would score 21 points or more in each of the three sets against the Vikings.

Set scores in the game were all in favor of the Vikings: 25-23, 25-22, 25-21.

With the win, the Vikings move to 7-8 on the season with just one game to go until districts play starts Monday, Oct. 30.
