Walter John Gray, 87, of Pullman, Wash., passed away October 31, 2023, at his Pullman home.
Walt was born May 15, 1936, in Spokane, Wash., to John & Lilian Gray. He grew up in Washtucna, Wash., graduating from Washtucna High School in 1954. Walt received his degree in Farm Management from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California in 1959.
Walt married Orbie Baken in Lacrosse, Wash., on December 21, 1957. Following his time in the U.S. Army they made Washtucna their home where he farmed until retiring in 1987.
Walt was a member of the Washtucna Community Church, the Evangelical Free Church of the Palouse, and the Adams County Cattle & Wheat Associations. He served as Church Treasurer for the Washtucna Community Church and Chairman of the Washtucna School Board.
He is survived by his wife Orbie Baken Gray, at their Pullman home; three sons Greg Gray of Washtucna, Wash .; Jeff Gray and wife, Judi Dunn Gray of Washtucna; Tim Gray and wife Sheila Trowbridge Gray of Sandpoint, Idaho; his daughter Arden Gray of Pullman. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Evangelical Free Church of the Palouse. He will be laid to rest at the Washtucna Cemetery.
Walt always offered a hearty welcome for friends and family. He laughed easily and often at his own jokes and kept a keen interest in the world. Time with Walt was always well spent. He will be deeply missed.
