Serving Whitman County since 1877
March 9, 1941 - Nov. 14, 2023
Agnes Ellen (Malby) Burchett, 82, of Colfax, Wash., passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 14, 2023, at her Colfax home.
Aggie (as she was known to family and friends) was the fifth child of 11, born March 9, 1941, to Leonard & Agnes (Mahar) Malby. Aggie grew up in LaCrosse, Wash., and graduated from St. Joseph's high school in 1959. Aggie immediately attended nursing college in Yakima, Wash., where she received her nursing degree in 1962.
Following completion of nursing school, Aggie and several of her classmates, 21 and feeling adventurous, set sail to the new 50th state of Hawaii. It was there that she met Arthur Burchett and shortly thereafter married. Together they had four children, and she made Hawaii her home until the couple later divorced.
Aggie returned to Washington, settling in Spokane (aside from a year in Anchorage, Alaska in 1977!) where she worked as a registered nurse until all her children were all grown up and out on their own. Aggie's career as a nurse took her from Hawaii to Washington, to Alaska to Washington, and to Arizona to Washington! Aggie eventually retired after an amazing 40-year career as a registered nurse from Colfax's Whitman County Hospital.
She returned to LaCrosse, Wash., and joined her two older sisters, Lois Olmstead and Mary Betrand, living literally across the street from each other for many years! Aggie later moved to Colfax in 2010, where she lived comfortably at The Courtyard until her passing. Aggie was a member of the Catholic Church.
Aggie is survived by her children Christine Burchett, Brian Burchett, David Burchett and Michelle Burchett; seven sisters and two brothers; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
You are welcome to attend Aggie's funeral service on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Corbeill Funeral Home, Colfax, Wash. Interment will follow at the LaCrosse Cemetery. There will be viewing for Aggie on Monday from 9 – 5 at the funeral home or Tuesday before the service. Further information and online condolences may be sent to http://www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
