Robert "Bob" Frederick Hayes

June 4, 1940 - Nov. 17, 2023

Robert "Bob" Frederick Hayes, 83, passed away the morning of Nov. 17, 2023, at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, with wife, Fran; son, Jim; daughter, Stacey; son-in-law, Dwight; and grandchildren Leighton and Haley (and her fiance Ethan) by his side.

A Celebration of Life for Bob will be at the Pine City cemetery at 11 a.m. Dec. 8, with a potluck to follow at Kenova Grange Hall in Pine City.

Bob was born June 4, 1940, in Spokane, Wash., to James Lynn Hayes and Bernice Johnson Hayes. He grew up in the Pine City area and attended school there until its closure in 1956, continuing his education in St. John, where he graduated in 1958.

On June 26, 1965, Bob married the love of his life Frances "Fran" Marie Brown. They made their home in St. John until they moved to Moses Lake in 1992, and then Burbank in 2015, where they currently reside.

Bob worked in agriculture all his life from driving wheat truck, hauling hay and working cattle. He was employed with Wilber Ellis and Western Farm Service, and was an agronomy manager at St. John Grange Supply for many years.

He was a member of the St. John Fire Department, St. John Saddle Club, an honorary member of St. John FFA and is a lifetime member of the Kenova Grange in Pine City.

Bob took great pride in his registered Hereford ranch: Hayes Herefords, and remained active in the cattle community by being a member of the American Hereford Association, Oregon, Washington, Northern Idaho Hereford Association, and the Columbia Empire Hereford Association. In 2008, Bob received the Grant County Cattleman of the year award.

His greatest joy was traveling and watching his kids and grandchildren show his cattle around the Western US.

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Fran, his faithful companion, Trixie; son, James "Jim" Lyle Hayes; daughter, Stacey Lynn (Dwight) Hayes Dorman; four grandchildren, Haley (Ethan) Dorman, Leighton Dorman, Ransom Hayes and Robert "Bobby" Hayes. He was preceded in death by his father, James Lynn Hayes, and mother, Bernice Johnson Hayes.

His family requests any memorials be made to the St. John Community Building in the name of Robert "Bob" Hayes or the contributors choice.
