Timberwolf boys open season with 2 wins, 1 loss

Tekoa-Rosalia boys play three games in opening week

TEKOA — The Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves boys basketball team had a busy start to the season, playing three games in a week.

The Timberwolves would win their first game of the season before losing on the road. Their second win came at home to keep them undefeated at home to start the year.

The first game of the season for the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves boys basketball team was a wire-to-wire victory over the Valley Christian Panthers.

The Timberwolves scored 13 or more points in all three quarters and were outscored only in the third quarter as they came out with a 68-57 victory.

The first quarter saw Tekoa-Rosalia lead by 10 at the end after holding the Panthers to just eight points in the quarter.

The second quarter saw the Timberwolves score 18 points again, but give up 16 to the Panthers. Tekoa-Rosalia headed into the locker room up 36-24.

In the third quarter, the Timberwolves were outscored 15-13, but still led 49-39 heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter of play, Tekoa-Rosalia would score 19 points and give up 18 as they took the 11 point victory.

In the game, Isaac Bone led the way with 27 points. Vanden Allen would have 23 points for the Timberwolves as well.

“It was a good game! We started off quick, we put a lot of pressure on Valley Christian. They were a very resilient team. They kept their composure and played their game. They cut our lead down to 3 points. Our guys took a deep breath and picked up the intensity and made some tough shots to stretch the lead back out and close the game out,” said Timberwolves head coach Mike Bone.

The second game of the season saw the Timberwolves fall to Soap Lake 92-62.

The game was played in Soap Lake on Friday, Dec. 1.

Bone would finish with 25 points in the game.

Wes Bryan had 12 points on four made three-point attempts.

The Timberwolves were out matched by Soap Lake throughout the contest, leading to the first loss of the season for Tekoa-Rosalia.

The next game for the Timberwolves in the week was a game against the Columbia Lions.

The game was played in Tekoa on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The Timberwolves would get the 72-60 victory on the day, improving their record to 2-1.

The Timberwolves held the Lions to 10 points in the third quarter which helped lead them to victory on the day.

Bone had a season-high 34 points on 13 made field goal attempts.

Allen added 18 points in the game on seven made field goal attempts.

The next game for the Timberwolves will be Saturday, Dec. 9. The game will be played in Palouse against the Garfield-Palouse Vikings. The boys game will start at 7:30 p.m.

The Timberwolves will also have a game on Tuesday, Dec. 12, against Liberty Christian. The game will be played in Liberty Christian, and the boys game will start at 7:30 p.m.

The Timberwolves are 2-1 to start the season so far. Last season, the team finished with an overall record of 15-8. The 2022-23 team starte the year on a three-game winning streak before losing to Upper Columbia Academy. The logest winning streak for the team was six.

Tekoa-Rosalia have not been a part of the WIAA state playoffs since the 2008 season. DUring that season, the team was Tekoa-Oakesdale and they finished second place overall.

Early indications for the 2023-24 season show that Bone and Allen will be the keys to success for this Timberwolves team with the rest of the season still to play.
