Oakesdale — The Oakesdale Nighthawks took their second week of basketball action by storm, winning back-to-back games to improve their record to 3-2 overall.
The Nighthawks started their week with a game against conference opponent Garfield-Palouse Vikings.
The Nighthawks and Vikings met early in the season for a game with potential huge implications for conference standings and playoffs down the road.
In the game, the Nighthawks and Vikings were even throughout the game before pulling away at the end to take the 49-47 victory.
The first quarter saw Oakesdale lead 13-10 after one.
The second quarter was where the Vikings made their mark, out scoring the Nighthawks 13-10 in the quarter. The game would be tied at 23 heading into the third quarter.
In the third quarter, the Vikings would lead 28-25, then push their lead to four following an Oakesdale timeout. Garfield-Palouse took a lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth the Nighthawks would score 12 points and allow 10 to win the match by two points.
The Nighthawks were led by Ryker Reed, who was too big and strong for the Vikings to handle in the paint and from the mid-range.
For the Vikings, Lane Collier and Brendan Snekvik were the highlights of the team and their pursuit of a conference victory, which fell just short.
