Oakesdale boys basketball flex in home victory

Win one game and lose one before Christmas

OAKESDALE - The Oakesdale Nighthawks boys basketball team are entering Christmas break currently fifth in the conference standings. They hold a 2-1 record, with their first loss and second win coming this past week.

The Nighthawks started their week with a defeat against the top-seeded Pomeroy Pirates, then, Oakesdale got the better of Tekoa-Rosalia.

The game against Pomeroy was played on Friday, Dec. 15, and took place in Pomeroy.

Although the Nighthawks had a strong showing, they fell to the Pirates 39-65.

The first quarter saw Oakesdale score 13 points, but allow 24 from Pomeroy. The Nighthawks would win the second quarter 14-11, but trailed 27-35 at halftime.

The second half was one the Nighthawks will look to forget. They scored eight points in the third, and four points in the fourth quarter while giving up 30 points total to lose by 26.

Ryker Reed led Oakesdale with 14 points. He also had eight rebounds and four assists.

Emeric Anderson had nine points on 4/8 shooting with two offensive rebounds.

Oakesdale had the opportunity to bounce back the following day, playing a game against the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves on Saturday, Dec. 16.

The Nighthawks took full advantage of a slow second quarter for the Timberwolves, which helped them take down Tekoa-Rosalia 54-37.

At the end of the first quarter the Nighthawks were trailing 9-11, however, the Timberwolves scored five points in the second quarter, while the Nighthawks only put up nine, they gained the 18-16 halftime lead.

Oakesdale would score 29 points in the third quarter alone to put the game out of reach for Tekoa-Rosalia, securing the conference victory.

"We were able to do a good job on the offensive glass- pulling down 21 offensive rebounds which was a difference maker," said Oakesdale head coach Carl Crider.

The next game for the Nighthawks will be Friday, Jan. 5. The Nighthawks will head to St. John to take on the Eagles. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
