PALOUSE — The Garfield Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter hosted 33 students from local high schools for the Leadership Development Event (LDE) contest on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Events included Creed Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Prepared Public Speaking and Parliamentary Procedure.
For the Spanish speaking Creed competition Vivian Riley, of Colfax, took third place; with Lyllian Jacobs, of LaCrosse, coming in second; and Mere Bell, of Colton, earning first place.
In the Parliamentary Procedure the only teams competing were St. John-Endicott and Garfield-Palouse, with Garfield-Palouse winning the blue ribbon.
Halee Burg, of St. John-Endicott took third place in the extemporaneous speaking contest. Addison Watkins, of Colfax, took second; and Clair Moehrle, Colton, took first.
Holly Heitstuman, of Colton took first place in the Prepared Public Speaking competition with Rori Webber, of Colton taking second, and St. John Endicott student Olivia Shawgo earning third place.
The Garfield-Palouse FFA Chapter is led by advisors Ryan Burtchett and Glory Dickerson.
