ROSALIA-The Rosalia Garden Club gathered on Tuesday, Dec. 12, to put together "Cheer Baskets," for those in the community that needed holiday cheer.
Rosalia Garden Club Publicity Chairman MarvaLee Peterschick said the "Cheer Baskets," tradition was started in 1935 by the Alpha Club, a social club that was actively contributed to the Rosalia community doing good things.
"It's been continuous since that date," Peterschick said, noting that the Alpha club took care of it for many years, and then the garden took over rafter that alpha club was no longer active.
Peterschick said the the 24 members of the garden club chose items to donate, and used paper bags furnished and decorated by the local girl scout troop with leader Laura Fulton.
"We did 33 or 35 bags right now," Peterschick said, adding that the chairman Kenny Baringer allow people to reach out if they are in need.
The club had cookies with face of Santa and Mrs. Santa Claus decorated by club member Sarah Birrenkott.
Peterschick said that the club members deliver the baskets on the same day they are made, and from time to time gets donations from individuals just wanting to be a part of the "Cheer" of Christmas time.
"Penni Barringer is the local chairman for the garden therapy project," Peterschick said, noting that Barringer graciously appreciates help with the list of people that she puts together starting in early November.
