Serving Whitman County since 1877

Superior Court Judge Gary Libey will not seek re-election

Libey endorses Roger Sandberg as replacement

COLFAX — Whitman County Judge Gary Libey has announced that he will not seek re-election after his 2024 term expires.

Libey also endorses Court Commissioner Roger Sandberg as replacement Whitman County Superior Court Judge.

Reports say Libey has served as Whitman County Superior Court Judge since January 2017. Before serving as Superior Court Judge, Libey practiced law in Whitman County for 40 years.

“Life is good. It has been my honor to serve as Judge for the last seven years and my pleasure to have practiced law in this wonderful community for 40 years before that,” Libey said. “I will miss the opportunity to come to work every day and make a difference in the lives of my friends and neighbors, but at the end of this term, it will be time to move on to the next adventure.”

Libey endorsed current Superior Court Commissioner and District Court Judge Pro Tempore Roger Sandberg as his replacement. “Roger has been serving as District Court Judge Pro Tem for the last 13 years and has been recently serving as Superior Court Commissioner,” Libey said. “He has a broad range of experience and would be an excellent choice for Superior Court Judge. He has my endorsement.”

Retired Whitman County Superior Court Judge David Frazier also endorses Sandberg.

In addition to serving in judicial roles, Sandberg has been practicing law in Whitman County since 2008, taking on various cases in criminal law, family law, and general civil litigation.

The general election for Whitman County Superior Court Judge will occur in November 2024.
