Wildcat boys on tough losing spell

COLTON - The Colton Wildcats are still searching for their first win in 2024 as they fell in back-to-back games to give them an overall record of 2-11.

Colton lost to the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves 37-65 before losing two more games over the weekend.

The Wildcats started with a 38-60 loss to Highland (Idaho) then lost 30-63 to the Garfield-Palouse Vikings.

Colton are now winless in their last seven games, with their last win coming Tuesday, Dec. 12, against the Dayton Bulldogs.

The game against the Timberwolves was played on Wednesday, Jan. 3, and took place in Rosalia.

The Wildcats were in the game early, but quickly saw their hope fade as Colton lost by 28.

The first quarter was 10-10, before Tekoa-Rosalia went on a 7-0 run to end the first, leading 17-10.

Matthew Reisenauer scored six in the first for Colton, and Tanner Baerlocher added four.

During the second, Colton took a timeout trailing by nine early. Their deficit would increase to 12 when the quarter ended.

Coming into the third quarter, The Timberwolves quickly went on a 7-2 run before Colton took a timeout. Tekoa-Rosalia scored 21 points in the third and allowed just six from Colton to lead 48-21.

Colton could not put together baskets and stops in the second half, falling 37-65 in the game.

Reisenauer finished the game with 14 points for Colton. Baerlocher scored 14 as well, six of which coming in the third.

The next game this week was on Friday, Jan. 5, against Highland. The game was played in Colton.

The Wildcats struggled throughout the game, falling to Highland for the second time this season.

Colton shot just 22% in the game to score 38 points. They have up 60 to lose by 22 to Highland.

Reisenauer led Colton with 15 points. Baerlocher and Ryan Impson each had eight for the Wildcats in the game.

The last game of the week for the Wildcats was played on Saturday, Jan. 6, against the Vikings. The game was played in Colton.

The Vikings led from start-to-finish, forcing 21 turnovers from Colton to defeat the Wildcats 63-30.

Reisenauer had 10 points to lead Colton. Baerlocher and Duke Chalmers each had seven.

One again, Colton shot just 22% in the game, which was not enough to take down the Vikings.

The Wildcats will look to win their first game in nearly a month as they will take on the Timberwolves again on Friday, Jan. 12. The game will be played in Colton, and will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

This will be the second consecutive week where the Wildcats will take on the Timberwolves.

After the game against Tekoa-Rosalia, the Wildcats will take on the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles. The game will be played on Saturday, Jan. 13, and will take place in St. John.

The Wildcats are struggling. With only one senior on the roster, one junior, four sophomores, and three freshman, the Wildcats slow start is expected as the team learn how to play and compete with each other.
