UNIONTOWN ––Talks are currently underway re-examining the verbal agreement made decades ago between the Uniontown Town Council and the Uniontown Community Building Volunteer Board in hope of sustaining the town’s annual Sausage Feed event.
The annual Uniontown Sausage feed is held at the town’s Community Building every year during the first week of March. Funds from the event are used to pay for the building maintenance and utilities.
Under the former verbal agreement, Uniontown owns the facility, while board operates the building and runs the Sausage Feed event. Currently, the town council is now requiring that a formal agreement is reached to comply with state laws to help minimize any potential risks to the town or residents from an informal deal.
The Community Board had an offer to move forward with a short-term agreement and was asked to sign by Saturday, Jan. 13, to extend their use of the community building, while a formal agreement was drawn up. The short-term agreement was signed by Uniontown Community Board President Lynn Smith.
The agreement will postpone any further actions by the town related to the community building until April 30, 2024.
The 2024 Sausage Feed is planned to resume its normal event scheduling with the agreement, with the feed being held on March 2.
