UPDATE - Fire units respond to Pullman storage facility

**Updated as of Feb. 9, 9 a.m.**

PULLMAN - At approximately noon, Thursday, Feb. 8, Whitman County Fire District 12 was requested to respond to a structure fire at the Express Storage facility located at 6862 WA-270, Pullman, Wash.

The volunteer firefighters from District 12, out of Pullman, arrived on scene at the metal frame storage facility to multiple units blazing.

While the responders were able to save several units, six of the storage units were ultimately destroyed along with 13 vehicles, a motor home, camp trailer and several other vehicles. Smoke damage was present throughout the facility.

While District 12 initially battled the flames, fire crews from Whitman County District 4 from Palouse, Colton-Uniontown’s District 14, a crew from Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport Fire Department and Moscow city and rural crews made their way to the scene to assist with the large structure fire.

Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol and Washington Department of Transportation also arrived to assist with the call.

While multiple local agencies assisted with the call, neighboring businesses also contributed to getting the fire under control. Atlas Sand and Rock, located at 6772 WA-270 along the highway, assisted with providing water. An excavator from Motley and Motley, 6901 WA-270, was loaned during the fire to help with debris removal.

No injuries resulting from the fire has been reported. The cause of the fire has still yet to be determined as the City of Pullman’s fire investigator reviews the scene.

Volunteers were present on scene overnight to control and extinguish lingering hotspots.

**Feb. 8, 12:40 p.m.**

PULLMAN - At approximately noon, Thursday, Feb. 8, local fire crews were requested to respond to a structure fire at the Express Storage facility located at 6862 WA-270, Pullman, Wash.

Smoke from the fire is currently causing some visual diminishment for drivers along WA-270, connecting Pullman and Moscow, Idaho.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

As of 12:41 p.m., the highway is continuing to allow traffic.
