Stanley Roy Staves, Jr. "J.R."

Stanley Roy Staves, Jr. "J.R." passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Whitman Medical Center in Colfax. He was born on August 28, 1970, in Spokane, Wash., to Stanley Roy Staves, Sr and Judy (Kellog) Staves.

He grew up in Spokane and attended school there. That's where he met Rebecca Anderson. Together they were married in 1988 in Goldendale, Wash., before moving to the St. John/Endicott area. They welcomed three children, Brittany, Adam and Ian. JR worked for CoAg in Rosalia and traveled all over the Palouse. Later he moved to Colfax where he started working for Rosauers. It was there he met Tabatha Gunning, who he later welcomed a son, Jayden, with in 2013. He also worked at Dreamworks as a caregiver and later for Paul's Place as the maintenance manager. Everyone who knew JR knew he had a big personality and loved to make the people around him smile.

He is survived by his four children; Brittany (Lukus) Mattoon in Lewiston, Idaho, Adam, Ian, and Jayden Staves all of Colfax, Wash .; two grandchildren, Bently and Marshall Mattoon; and by eight brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Colfax. A burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends will be on Wednesday, February 7, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax.
