Jake & T.C

In reading the Gazette Reporter Jake Hull’s great article regarding Tony Carter, I was struck by two things. The first was the obvious outpouring of the importance that TC had in the Colfax School System. Whether coaching in several areas, teaching, helping, his humility and humor, of course I and all you others could go on and on but one of the most important to me was Mike Morgan’s comment about Tony’s superb athletic training. You knew when your kid was hobbling or down and T.C went out to take a look and the kid either stayed or came out, it was T.C’s decision based on his knowledge of what was best for the player.

The second thing I noticed was the placement of the article. Oh yes, in the Sports Section!, but surrounded by Colfax excellence. Above you have both Colfax boys and girls basketball teams seeded #1 going into district playoff games.

Just to Tony’s left you have a short article on the up-coming induction of Colfax’s Terry Cochran into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for his 38 years of dedication as a Wrestling referee. This wasn’t mentioned in the article, but this National and permanent placement at the National Hall of Fame and Museum in Stillwater, Oklahoma and being a National award, is no doubt a well-earned honor for Terry and his family and should be recognized by all of us in Colfax as the same. Whenever I got to a match and no Colfax kids are on the mat, I watch Terry ref. He’s turned it almost into an art form.

Just to the left of Terry and included in my second thing (because it’s wrestling) is the amazing fact 8 boys and 1 girl will be competing at Regionals on Saturday for a chance to go to state, the boys will be going to Liberty and Grace will be competing at Quincy.

So Jake you could not have done Tony nor his fans any better with your article or its placement. He would have loved both, this is another reason I subscribe to the Gazette because you guys are professionals and it shows in the news you print, regarding Colfax and outlying area.
