Students encouraged to submit artwork
PULLMAN — The League of Women Voters of Pullman and Whitman County have launched their 2024 Visual Arts Competition for students with the theme “Let’s celebrate voting: Why Does Voting Matter?” for grades 3-12.
Participants must be residents of Whitman County and fill out an entry form with a parent or legal guardian’s signature.
The competition has three grade groupings: 3rd through 5th grade, 6th through 8th grade, and 9th through 12th.
All artwork submitted must be one original completed by the student.
No videos or images in motion are allowed. two-dimensional artwork must not exceed 11’ by 17’, and three-dimensional must not exceed the size of 1 cubic foot.
No names, including the artists, are allowed to appear on the submission, and the entry form must be filled out entirely and turned in with the artwork.
Students can submit inspired by “Why Voting Matters” at the Neill Public Library, 210 North Grand Avenue in Pullman, and the Whitman County Library, 102 South Main Street in Colfax, until Sunday, Mar. 31.
The LWVP will appoint judges to evaluate artwork based on creative interpretation of the theme, and the judges have the right to disqualify entries if they do not meet the competition rules.
Prizes include $50 to spend at a local business and a copy of the League of Women Voters of Washington Civics textbook.
There will be prizes for multiple winners in each grade grouping.
An awards ceremony and prizes will occur on April 20, 2024, at the Neill Public Library for the winners and all participating students.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages citizens’ informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
