COLFAX –– Fawnda Kay, 43, of Lewiston, Idaho, was arrested while driving with her license suspended on Sunday, Mar. 3 at 9:03 p.m. She is facing four separate charges of DWLS 3rd Degree 46.20.342, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Making False Statements, and 2nd Degree Identity Theft.
Probable Cause Statements report that Whitman County Sheriff’s Deputy Cory Alcantar observed the vehicle traveling northbound on Main Street with a temporary license tag. Upon making a right-hand turn onto Tyler Street without signaling, the deputy initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle came to a halt in the parking lot of the Cougar Food Mart.
According to reports, upon approaching the driver’s side window, the officer identified the driver as Fawnda Kay, who presented an expired driver’s license belonging to Barbara Ranae Bareilles. Suspicion arose when the officer noticed discrepancies between Kay’s appearance and the photo on the license. Upon further questioning, Kay initially claimed to be Barbara.
“I looked at the driver and saw the picture did not match. I looked at the passenger and saw the picture matched the passenger. I asked Kay what her name was, and she told me, Barbara,” said Alcantar. “I asked Kay to step out of the vehicle, which she did with her purse. I told Kay to go sit on my bumper. I leaned in and spoke with the passenger, Bareilles, I asked her what was going on. Bareilles told me Kay did not have a driver’s license. I asked Bareilles if I had her identification card, and she told me yes. I told Kay to stop messing with me and to be honest.”
Whitman County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Michael Jordan and Deputy Chris Olin arrived to assist. Kay was placed under arrest for driving on a suspended license, and further investigation led to the discovery of narcotics-related charges.
Reports further say that after speaking with Kay, Deputy Alcatar asked if she had any drugs on her.
“I placed Kay in handcuffs. I asked Kay if she had any drugs on her, she told me no. As Kay told me no, Deputy Olin told me she was looking in her vehicle towards the center console. Based on my training and experience, this is a sign of deception,” said Alcantar.
Reports say Sergeant Jordan searched Kay’s purse and reportedly found a glass pipe and an empty bag with residue of methamphetamine.
A search warrant was placed on the vehicle, where the officers reportedly found a backpack with Kay’s work identification and a small makeup bag with a small plastic bag containing methamphetamine.
Kay was transported to the Whitman County Jail, where she faces multiple charges related to driving offenses and drug possession. Her bail is set at $10,000.00 Bond or $1,000.00 Cash bail through Whitman County Superior Court.
