Led Bulldogs to an undefeated season with state title
COLFAX - Colfax Bulldogs senior point guard Seth Lustig capped off a perfect 29-0 basketball season with a state championship in the 2B division for the Bulldogs, their first since 2012.
Lustig reaped the benefits of his stellar play in the state championship tournament with a player of the week award from the WIAA.
The WIAA and GESA Credit Union recognize student-athletes each week, with Lustig winning the award in the last week of the winter sports season.
"The first thing that comes to mind when I think about Seth is a leader. He has led our team by his effort, his positive attitude, toughness, determination, competitiveness and encouragement!" said Colfax Head Coach Reece Jenkin.
Lustig was one of 12 recipients of the award for week 25 of the 2023-24 academic year.
"I was concerned with a quick turnaround after a late semifinal game and an early afternoon championship game until I saw Seth the morning of the Championship, our film session and walkthrough. He was all smiles and excited for the opportunity to play for a state title," said Jenkin.
In the three state tournament games the Bulldogs played in the Spokane Arena, Lustig averaged 17.6 points, 3.3 assists, and four rebounds.
"I was so proud and excited for him as he was perfect from the free throw line during the state tournament. Seth has spent a lot of time in the gym, and I can always trust Seth to handle any pressure other teams throw our direction. He is a special leader that we have leaned on for the last four years, and am thankful for the opportunity to coach him," said Jenkin.
He finishes his Colfax basketball career with 77 wins and 15 losses. His team finished fourth in state in 2022, and captured the state title this past season, his senior year. There was no state tournament in 2020-21 due to COVID-19.
Lustig was also the quarterback for the Bulldogs.
