Eagles baseball ready to start 2024 spring season

Looking to improve on last season with young roster

ST. JOHN — After losing six players from the 2022-23 baseball team, the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles are preparing for their opening game of the new season with a young roster.

“We do have a young team, four eighth graders, six freshman, and one sophomore,” said Eagles Head Coach Dustin DeFord.

DeFord is not worried about the youth on the team, as he is expecting a productive season from the team as a whole.

Last season, the Eagles finished with a 3-12 overall record. They won two games against the Garfield-Palouse Vikings, and one against Walla Walla in their final game of the season.

“We have some good returning starters and newcomers to help fill gaps in our defense and pitching this season,” DeFord said.

DeFord said that they lost quality pitching and defense from last season, but have found suitable replacements.

“I am hoping this season we can get some good outings out of our pitching and also add some offense to go along with it,” DeFord said.

The Eagles will be the first Whitman County team to officially begin their 2024 spring sports season.

St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse will play Thursday, March 12, against Walla Walla for a double-header. The games will be in Walla Walla, with first pitch scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. The game is being played Thursday due to a lack of available officials.
