Juanita J. Brophy, 97, longtime Pullman, Wash., resident passed away April 3, 2024, in Spokane, Wash, at her daughter's home.
Juanita was born March 26, 1927, in St. John, Wash., to Eddie & Emma (Jenkins) Jones. She grew up in the St. John/Lancaster area where she attended school in both communities. Juanita graduated from St. John High School and went to work for the Colfax School District for a time. On July 3, 1947, Juanita married William (Bill) Brophy and they made their home in St. John until moving to Pullman in 1960. In 1965 Juanita went to work at Washington State University in the food services department. She retired in 1992 following many years of service.
Juanita loved her family and cherished time together. She enjoyed watching the kids' sporting events and was always keeping track of the scores. Juanita loved sewing and quilting, making over 1000 quilts over the years. She would donate many of them to Spokane Children's Hospital, and was recognized for this wonderful work. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting and loved to work in her yard. Juanita was a Mariners fan, always keeping her eye on them.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Jim) Phinney of Spokane, Wash .; her grandson Casey Phinney of Spokane; sister Doris (Jim) Potts; brother Dale Jones; and her many nieces and nephews. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband Bill; her two sons, Roger and Randy Brophy; her parents; brother and sister-in-law Bob & Millie Jones; sisters, Colleen (Les) Hutton, Bernice (Jackie) Glorfield and Jo Jones.
Juanita was laid to rest at a graveside service on April 8, 2024 at the St. John Cemetery in St. John, Wash. Corbeill Funeral Home of Pullman, Wash., was entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations in honor of Juanita Brophy are suggested to the Spokane Children's Hospital, Providence Inland Northwest Foundations, 101 West 8th Ave., Spokane, WA 99202 or to the Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E.
