Could not hold Chewelah off in game one
COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs baseball team saw their five-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 and 19-7 loss against the Chewelah Cougars.
Both games were played on Thursday, April 4, in Colfax.
The opening game saw Colfax lead 1-0 after one, then scored their second run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Colfax held Chewelah scoreless through six innings. Down to their final three outs, the Cougars rallied, scoring three runs to take the lead.
The Bulldogs could not produce a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, dropping game one to Chewelah, 3-2.
JP Wigen pitched the first six innings for Colfax. He allowed three total runs for one run with three walks. He would also strike out nine batters.
Wigen was pulled in the seventh after allowing one run, he was replaced by Erik Christensen. He recorded the first two outs in the seventh, however, he allowed two earned runs on three hits with a walk before he was replaced by Adrian Antoine.
On offense, Colfax recorded just four hits for their two runs. JJ Bodey, Tyler Petersen, Alton and Aslan Burt each had one hit, with Burt recording an RBI.
The Bulldogs were walked just once in the game, and struck out six times.
Following the defensive first game was a second game where the bats were hot for both teams.
Chewelah scored two or more runs in each inning played, including 20 hits, to win the second game against Colfax, 19-7.
Colfax scored one run in the third inning, three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth inning, but could not keep the Cougars off the base paths.
Dawson Lobdell started on the mound for the Bulldogs. He pitched two-and-one-thirds innings, allowing 11 runs, eight earned, on nine hits with two walks.
Caden Inderrieden came in for relief, pitching the final three-and-two-thirds innings. He allowed eight runs, six earned, on 11 hits and three walks. He would strike out three batters as well.
Of the Bulldogs five total hits, Lobdell, Emeric Anderson, Wigen, Inderrieden and Peterson each had one.
Anderson had two RBIs, and Lobdell led the way with three.
All but one Chewelah batter recorded at least one hit in the game, helping secure the 12-run victory over Colfax.
With an overall record of 7-4, the Bulldogs will now have a rest period before re-starting play next week.
Colfax will take on the Asotin Panthers for a double-header. The games will be played on Tuesday, April 16, in Colfax. First pitch is set for 3 p.m., with the second game to follow.
