Hospital works to remedy downed sterilizer

COLFAX — Dr. W. Douglas B. Hiller, MD informed the Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics Board of Commissioners that hospital sterilizer had been down for over two months during the Wednesday, April 17, regular commissioners’ meeting.

Manager of Administration Services Laurie Gronning confirmed that the hospital’s large sterilizer has been out of service.

A sterilizer is a medical device used to sterilize surgical instruments using steam, dry heat, radiation, ethylene oxeide (EtO) gas, vaporized hydrogen peroxide and other sterilization methods.
