Sheriff's Posse seeks members

COLFAX — The Whitman County Sheriff’s Posse is seeking new members of all skill levels and experiences to serve the community by contributing to search and rescue missions.

The Sheriff’s Posse invites all interested to attend their next meeting on May 14, in the Colfax Community Building,

Active member of the Sheriff’s Posse Tucker Senter said the group is looking for those willing to serve their community on foot or horseback and those who who want to wear the dress whites and go through parades.

“If you have a skill or interest, chances are, we can find a place for you,” Senter said.

Senter added that for those interested in search and rescue, he and his fellow posse members have been training for search and rescue operations. “Everything from horseback and on foot searches, scene investigations and much more,” he said, adding that while many think they are only an equestrian team they do much more.

“We have a seperate ground team that operates four wheelers, side-bysides, and on foot,” Senter said, adding that if anyone has experience using radios, has worked as a first responder, or just want to be part of the safety of the community the team wants them.

Senter said that anyone who has experience on horseback and has a trained horse is encouraged to join. “You will be a multi-duty member of our SAR (search and rescue) Operations and Missions, ride through parades, and more on horseback,” he said.

Senter said that the Whitman County Sheriff’s Posse can give anyone interested access to a tight-knit team and advanced training, including first-aid.

Members have the chance to be a critical part of the community and participate in events around the county, Senter said.

“We will give you the tools and opportunities to embody the WCSP motto, ‘Serve with Pride,’” Senter said.
