COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs baseball team opened their district tournament with a 13-3 victory over the Kettle Falls Bulldogs.
The game was played on Thursday, May 2, in Colfax.
"I thought we did a great job at the plate the entire game. We were patient when we needed to be, but still aggressive when we needed to be as well. Drawing eight walks, scoring in each inning and picking up the timely two out hits was key. Really proud of the way some of the young guys stepped up as well. We've been hit with an injury/sickness bug this year, but we've been able to call on some other guys to play bigger roles and they've all done excellent for us," said Colfax head coach Scott Parrish.
Kettle Falls defeated the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos earlier in the day to knock the Broncos out of the tournament.
In the loser-out battle of the Bulldogs, Colfax would score in each of the four innings they batted, holding Kettle Falls to just three runs, all in the third inning.
Colfax senior pitcher JP Wigen pitched all five innings, allowing three runs, none earned, on four hits with two walks. Wigen would also strike out six batters in the game.
Colfax had eight hits on offense in the game, led by two each from Alton Burt and Cade Inderrieden.
Inderrieden had three RBIs, followed by two from Burt and Tyler Peterson.
With the win, Colfax advances to the next round of the district tournament. Their semifinal game will be played on Wednesday, May 8, at 2:30 p.m. against Asotin. The game will be played at Gonzaga University. Both Colfax and Asotin took one game off one another late in the season.
Should Colfax defeat Asotin, they will play for a district championship against either Northwest Christian (Colbert) or Jenkins (Chewelah). The championship game will be played at 5 p.m. that same day, with the winner-to-state, and the loser out.
"We're excited for the opportunity to play at Patterson Baseball Complex on Wednesday. The boys are excited to get out and play on such a nice field and we're certainly thankful that Gonzaga is allowing us to host our District Day 2 at their home field," said Parrish.
