Kohberger alibi "too broad,"

Defense team works to prove kohberger alibi

MOSCOW, Idaho — The man charged with murdering four University of Idaho students in 2022 has had his alibi called into question after being described as “too broad” by prosecution.

Bryan Kohberger, 29, faces four charges of first-degree murder and the single count of burglary relating to the deaths of four University of Idaho students, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, that occurred on November 13, 2022. A not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf in May 2023. Prosecution is seeking the death penalty.

Despite his recent filing of documents that provided an alibi, the prosecution argues that the alibi is simply “too broad.”

Kohberger’s defense plans to call upon a cell phone tower and radio frequency expert to substantiate Kohberger’s claim that he was driving south of Pullman and west of Moscow during the time in question.

The court document supporting this alibi defense was filed on Wednesday, April 17, revealing details about Kohberger’s alleged routine of driving to areas near Moscow for hiking, running or stargazing.

Prosecution is now asking the judge to deny any further requests from his defense to call witnesses other than Kohberger in an attempt to prove he wasn’t at the King Road home at the time of the stabbings.

“With the exception of the reference to Wawawai Park (which is new), the defendant is offering nothing new to his initial ‘alibi’ that he was simply driving around during the morning hours of November 13, 2022,” Latah County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Thompson wrote in a court filing.

Kohberger’s public defenders highlighted his nighttime drives alone, suggesting a potential alibi without specifying exact locations or times aside from Wawawai Park.
