Pat's Books closing

Shop to shutter around Battle Days

ROSALIA — Pat’s Books and combined business Just Stuff is closing after over 20 years of being in business.

Rosalia local and owner Pat Voge said that she is in the process of closing and will be getting rid of the books her store has collected since 1998.

“I will be open for Battle Days and then a couple days after that, and we’ll be trying to eliminate things out of here,” Voge said.

Voge said that she started out small, with just the front of the building, but had expanded.

The business started when Duplicates, a bookstore that had closed in the 90s. Voge obtained books at 25 cents a book.

“A lot of them came in here free, so they should go out free,” said Voge.

For Voge, she said it is time for her to retire. “A lot are donated books in here, and there’s still a lot to get rid of.

“I try to open every day,” Voge said, “If you see my open sign out in the street you know I am open.”

Voge is donating as much as she can to the Rosalia library. Voge has multiple historical pictures of Rosalia that she has that the library has designated a spot for.

In addition to books Voge said that she has a lot of dishes and glassware, as well as some dolls.

Voge was a teacher at Rosalia school for 26 years, teaching a variety of things including Home Education and as a librarian, but doesn’t plan on going far now that she’s retiring. “I still live in Rosalia,” she said.

Voge mentioned the biggest part of having the book store that she will miss the most is being able to see the people in town and the kids that come into see her. “They’re always good kids,” she said, adding that the people in town are always supportive and gracious people.

There are some books that Voge will have for sale, but she said most are free. “Bring something to carry your books home in,” she said of anyone who stops in during Battle Days, “There’s good buys on the antiques stuff,” she added.
