Took down Sunnyside Christian by 13 runs to advance

COLTON- For the first time since the 2021-22 season, the Colton Wildcats softball team will participate in the state tournament.

The tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, May 24 and 25, in Yakima.

Colton will be guaranteed two games on Friday, and advance to play Saturday with one win needed from their two games Friday, May 24.

To advance to state, Colton had to upset Almira-Coulee-Hartline, which they did.

The game was played on Friday, May 17, in Spokane.

Colton scored four runs in the top of the third inning, then another three in the top of the seventh inning to earn the 12-7 victory.

After the win, Colton would lose 13-3 to top-ranked Liberty Christian on Saturday, May 18.

With the loss, the Wildcats were forced in a loser-out, winner-to-state game against Sunnyside Christian.

The game against Sunnyside Christian saw Colton dominate from start-to-finish, scoring six runs in the first inning, and another five in the fourth inning to win 17-4.

Kiya Soza struck out eight batters in the game, and Clare Moehrle hit a home run in the game.

The first round of state playoffs for Colton will be played at noon on Friday, May 24, against number five ranked Mossyrock.

Win or lose, Colton will play at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 24. If Colton take down Mossyrock, they advance to the state semifinals at 4 p.m.
