Semi truck crashes causing Hume Road closure

Officials diverted traffic to Dry Creek Road

COLFAX - At approximately 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, a semi truck from Othello, Wash., overturned on Hume Road causing a closure.

According to Whitman County Sheriff's officers at the scene, the truck, being driven by a Yakima man whose name was unavailable at the time of press, was traveling southbound on Hume Road when his front passenger-side tires dipped off of the road. Unable to recover, the semi truck twisted while attempting to come out of the ditch and landed on the roof of the vehicle and spilling his cargo about one mile south of the Steptoe Butte State Park entrance.

At the time of press, responders were detouring traffic from Hume Road to Cronk Road, which leads to northbound Dry Creek Road to get to Oakesdale.

The semi truck is operated by Zunigas Trucking LLC, out of Othello, Wash., and was hauling wood at the time.

Whitman County Sheriffs responded to the call along side Fire District 11 responders from Colfax and Steptoe.

The traffic investigation was still be conducted at the time of press. More information will be released as it becomes available.
