Serving Whitman County since 1877

Snake River Family Festival this weekend

Event takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 8

COLFAX - The Port of Whitman County is hosting its 7th annual Snake River Family Festival this weekend.

The festivities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Boyer Park and Marina this Saturday, June 8.

The day will feature live music from Americana band The Wasteland Kings, a complimentary barbecue lunch, and Ferdinand's classic ice cream while supplies last. Activities for kids of all ages will be available on land and in the water, and various vendors will offer river-themed entertainment and giveaways.

"It is our 7th year of the festival, and we are very excited to continue to have our Whitman County Community join us at the river to learn the value our system brings to our county," said Port of Whitman Operations and Administration Director Brenda Stav. "You'll see first-hand how they use the river to keep the economy and clean energy going. There is also free ice cream from Ferdinands. I think it's fun just to see everyone enjoying themselves."

Stav also reports a new change to this year's activities as a newly added cornhole game will be around, as well as face painting for children.

"There is a band, and oftentimes, there is dancing. It's easy, free, and really enjoyable for families. The kids really seem to enjoy it," she said.

Additionally, a free shuttle will be available from the park at noon and 2 p.m. for guided tours of Lower Granite Lock & Dam with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Sign up for a tour at the Corps' booth near the welcome tent.
