Conservation District hosts tours

Early registration for conservation tours approaching

PALOUSE — The Palouse Conservation District has several upcoming field tours coming up.

The District will host a Soil Health and Cropping Systems tour from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 24.

The Conservation District is teaming up with the University of Idaho Extension for the tour with local producers sharing insights from cover cropping, integration of livestock in small grains rotations and winter wheat variety trials.

The tour begins four miles south of Uniontown, and will conclude six miles northeast of Genesee, Idaho. The four tour locations will be shared with registered attendees.

Participants must provide their own transportation, carpooling is encouraged, and attendees should wear walking appropriate shoes.

The free event is open to the public and lunch and refreshments will be provided with Certified Crop Adviser credits available.

Those wanting to attend must register by Monday, June 17.

A Cook Agronomy Farm in Pullman Precision Agriculture Demo Day will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, with a registration date by June 19.

The Palouse Conservation District, Washington State University, and USDA-ARS will be hosting the event at the Cook Agronomy Farm located five miles northeast of Pullman.

The event will teach attendees about using plant sap analysis to assess crop nutrient needs and they can view a drone swarm demonstration of variable rate application and sport spraying.

Researchers from WSU and USDA will share information on liming and nitrogen loss in tile draining. Attendees can view a Giddings Soil Sampling Coring and Drilling Machine and soil cores, as well as learn about AI drone identification of weeds.

The free event is open to the public, with lunch and refreshments provided.

Attendees are encouraged to carpool and wear appropriate shoes for walking.
