Whitman County residents awarded scholarships
COLFAX — Graduated high school seniors across the county worked hard to apply for schools and plan their upcoming future steps receiving several scholarships to achieve their goals.
Colfax graduate John Bodey received the American Legion Scholarship for $1,000.
Scholarships received by Colfax graduate Paige Claassen included a Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s Scholarship for $1,000, Robert Jolin Osborne Scholarship for $2,000, and the Steve Luther Scholarship for $500.
Hailey Demler received the Colfax Masonic Lodge Scholarship for $500, an Eastern Washington University Dean’s Achievement Award for $8,000, the Rick VanTine Memorial Scholarship for $750, and the Milton and Beth Klettke Scholarship for $2,000.
Hope Fulfs received the Eastern Washington University (EWU) Scholarship Award for $4,000, and the EWU Dean’s Achievement Award for $8,000.
Isabel Gibler received the Colfax Class of 1952 Scholarship for $1,250, and the Robert Jolin Osborne Scholarship for $2,000.
Emma Haupt received a Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s Scholarship for $1,000, the Francis/Sabina Schreiber Fund for $1,250, and the Colfax Class of 1952 for $1,250.
Bradyn Heilsberg received the Washington State University Achievement Award for $4,000.
Harley Hennigar received several scholarships including the Blue Mountain Community College Rodeo Award for $8,352, the Whitman County Cattlemen’s Association for $1,000, the Bank of Eastern Washinton for $500, the Palouse Empire Fair Ambassador 2024 for $1,000, the Edward and Sadie Harter Scholarship for $1,000 and the Clarence Hines Scholarship for $1,000.
A Whitman County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship for $1,000 was given to Cody Inderrieden.
Ella Jones received the Colfax National Honor Society Scholarship for $25, an Arizona State University Provost Scholarship for $58,000, the Robert Joline Osborne Scholarship for $2,000 and the Steve Luther Scholarship for $500.
Kamela Larson received Colfax Schools Foundation Scholarship for $500, the Duane and Lori Stueckle Scholarship for $500 and the Colfax Rotary Scholarship for $1,000.
Seth Lustig received a Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s Scholarship for $1,000 the American Legion Scholarship for $1,000, the Colfax National Honor Society Scholarship for $25, the Walla Walla Community College Men’s Basketball Scholarship, the Clarence Hines Scholarship for $1,000 and the Colfax Rotary Scholarship for $1,000.
The Milton and Beth Klettke Scholarship for $2,000 was awarded to Jade Lyman.
Alaina McCully received the Colfax Schools Foundation Scholarship for $1,000 and the Watts Family Memorial for $1,000.
Destiny Nelson also received the Milton and Beth Klettke Scholarship for $2,000.
KeiLena Nelson received the Waste Connections Scholarship for $2,500, the Whitman Community Hospital Auxiliary for $1,000, the Colfax National Honor Society Scholarship for $50, a Department of Education Endowed Scholarship for $4,000, a Colfax Thrifty grandmother’s Scholarship for $1,000, the Colfax Schools Foundation Scholarship for $500, a Francis/Sabina Schreiber Fund for $1,250 and the Steve Luther Scholarship for $500.
Mikah Nelson was awarded the Colfax P.E.O. Scholarship for $1,000, the Colfax National Honor Society Scholarship for $50, the Colfax Eagles Scholarship for $1,500, the Clarence Hines Scholarship for $1,000 and the Melvin/Josephine Ripley Fund for $1,250.
Ian Rynearson received a Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s Scholarship for $1,000 the Clarence Hines Scholarship for $1,000 and a Robert Jolin Osborne Scholarship for $2,000.
Jaxon Wick also received a Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s Scholarship for $1,000, an Eastern Washington University Scholarship for $4,000, a Colfax Schools Foundation Scholarship for $1,000, and a Colfax Rotary Scholarship for $1,000.
James Wigen received a Bank of Eastern Washington scholarship for $500, a Walla Walla Community College Baseball Award for $2,000, a Lewis Clark Valley Scholarship for $1,000, an Ag West Agribusiness Association Scholarship for $2,500, a John K. Schierman Memorial Scholarship for $4,000, an FFA State Star in Placement Award for $1,750, the Konnor Stirling Memorial Scholarship for $1,000, a Colfax National Honor Society Scholarship for $25, a Whitman County Cattlemen’s Association for $1,000, a Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s Scholarship for $1,000, a Clarence Hines Scholarship for $1,000, a Craig Culbertson Memorial scholarship for $1,000 and a Les Schwab Scholarship for $500.
Lauryn York also received a Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s Scholarship for $1,000, a Steptoe Fire Department Scholarship for $500, a Walla Walla Community College Volleyball Scholarship, the Melvin/Josephine Ripley Fund for $1,250 and the Craig Culbertson Memorial for $1,000.
ST JOHN — St. John-Endicott graduates also received several scholarships towards their future endeavors.
Graduate Dakota Fox received the Annie Maria Hitchings #2 scholarship, a Brent Repp scholarship, Henry & Anna Schneidmiller, and a scholarship from Jeremy Thompson. Fox also received a Uncle Mikes Scholarship, the FAFSA Filer Award, a Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship, a Western Undergraduate Exchange Merit Scholarship and an Octave Zorb Memorial Scholarship presented at the graduation.
St. John-Endicott graduate Wade Gribble received scholarships through Harry & Oreane Schneidmiller and L. J. (Bus) Zorb #2.
Kaitlyn Hough received the Class of 2000 scholarship, the E. Harold Foster, a General Federated Women’s Club scholarship, the Harvey Denton Estate, an SJE Academic, the Lamont Bank of St. John Scholarship, the McGregors Scholarship, an Uncle Mike’s Scholarship and a Linfield College Academic Scholarship renewable for four years.
Camille Larsen received the Annie Maria Hitchings #1 scholarship, the June Philpott, a scholarship through Norman Swent, the Robert & Mary Schauble scholarship, an SJE Academic, and an SJE Ambassador.
Graduate Jacob Ropeter received a scholarship through Philip & Amelia Swent and the St. John Volunteer Fire Department.
Mckenzie Stanley received the Derek Trevor Miller scholarship, the Julie Blumenshein Heitstuman, a scholarship through Travis Nixon, a Columbia Basin College Golf Scholarship and an Uncle Mike’s Scholarship.
Will Tollett received a scholarship through Donna Marie Flatt, and an SJE Achievement.
LACROSSE — Five LaCrosse graduates received awards during their Saturday, June 8, graduation.
Graduate Julia Guske received the Valedictorian Award, the LaCrosse High School Female Athlete of the Year award, the Torgeson Memorial Award, a Kelli Scharpenberg Memorial Scholarship, the LaCrosse Masonic Lodge Scholarship, a Colfax Thrifty Grandmothers’ Scholarship, a Whitman Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship, a Whitman County Principals Association Scholarship, the Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC) Achievement Scholarship, a LaCrosse Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and a Western Undergraduate Exchange Waiver from LCSC.
Landen Miller received the Male Athlete of the Year for LaCrosse High School, the LaCrosse Community Club Scholarship, the Bank of Eastern Washington Scholarship, The McGregor Company Scholarship, a renewable Jack E. Ferris Memorial Scholarship, the Clemente Barber Memorial Scholarship, the Gayle Startin Memorial Scholarship and a LaCrosse Scholarship Foundation Scholarship.
Trey Seubert received a renewable Jack E. Ferris Memorial Scholarship, the LaCrosse Masonic Lodge Scholarship, the Gayle Startin Memorial Scholarship, and the LaCrosse Scholarship Foundation Scholarship.
Tucker Taylor will be joining the United States Navy.
Joshua Thompson received the LaCrosse Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and a Western Undergraduate Exchange Waiver from Lewis-Clark State College
LaCrosse Scholarships and waivers ended up totaling $45,980.
Palouse — Graduates from Garfield-Palouse received several scholarships towards their future higher education goals.
Graduate Maverick Anderson received Community Scholarships including Garfield Community Church, Garfield Christian Fellowship, Palouse Federated Church and GarPal Young Life lessons award for $250. Anderson achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and is enlisting in the US Navy.
Also receiving several community scholarships, Noemi Appel received the life lessons award for $250 and the Brantner-Archer Scholarship for Persistence and Achievement for $1,000.
Appel was offered Scholarships from Montana State University, University of Idaho and Whitworth University totaling $219,200. Appel will be attending Eastern Washington University and is receiving an Eastern Washington University Scholarship $1,000 per year for four years.
Ella Cuellar received community scholarships, including the Round Table Club for $1,000, the Life Lessons Award for $250, the Alli Bennett Memorial Scholarship for $500, the Katrina Thompson Scholarship for $5,000 and a scholarship through the Palouse Lions Club for $1,500.
Cuellar also received the Distinguished Young Women of Garfield Palouse for $3,300, the Chapter AE PEO Scholarship for $500, the Health Care Careers Scholarship for $500, the Heidi Keen Memorial Scholarship for $500 and a Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s for $1,000.
Cuellar received the Time Dawdy Scholastic Athlete Award, which is presented to the student athlete who participates in the most sports and maintains the highest-grade point average.
Receiving her CNA license through Clover Park Technical College via Running Start at Palouse High School, Cuellar is attending Lewis-Clark State College and is receiving the Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship at Lewis-Clark State College for $11,240 per year for four years and the Lewis-Clark State College Achievement Scholarship for $2,000 per year for four years.
Graduate Lola Edwards received several community scholarships, including the Life Lessons Award for $250, the Round Table Club for $1,000, the Xenodican Club for $500, the Palouse Grain Growers for $250, the Palouse Lions Club for $1,500, the Palouse Grain Growers: Bruce Baldwin Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 and the Heidi Keen Memorial Scholarship for $500.
Edwards also received a scholarship through the Viking Crew for $300, the Megistanis Award for $1,000, the Ray Mackalight Scholarship.
Edwards was offered athletic scholarships in cross country and track at Portland State University, Whitworth University, Southwest Oregon Community College, University of Montana Western, University of the Ozarks and Linfield University. Edwards will attend EWU where she is receiving an academic scholarship.
Zoe Laughary received community scholarships including the Life Lessons Award for $250, the Garfield-Palouse Education Association for $600, the Ellis and Neta Schaffer Memorial Scholarship for $1,800, the Palouse Lions Club for $1,500, the State Bank Northwest Memorial Scholarship for $500, the Megistanis Award for $500 and the Garfield-Palouse Performing Arts Boosters for $500.
Laughary also received the Chapter IO, P.E.O. Scholarship for $500, the Whitman County Principals’ Association for $400, the Chapter AE, PEO Scholarship for $500; a scholarship through the Viking Crew for $300.
Laughary was awarded the ASB Memorial Scholarship for $350, which is an established memorial scholarship fund through the Associated Student Body of Garfield-Palouse High School.
Laughery was offered scholarships to Montana State University, University of Idaho, Boise State University, Whitworth University, and UMass Boston totaling $282,000. She will be attending Boston College where she is receiving an academic scholarship of $70,000 per year for four years.
Graduate Taylor Mattson received the Life Lessons Award for $250. Mattson will be starting a career as a firefighter.
Walker Montgomery received the Life Lessons Award for $250. Montgomery is enlisted in the US Navy as a Navy Diver with a signing bonus of $25,000 and an automatic advancement to E-3.
Emma Orfe received the Garfield-Palouse Education Association for $600 and the Life Lessons Award for $250. Orfe will be attending Blue Mountain Community College.
Mason Parzuchowski received the Brantner-Archer Scholarship for Persistence and Achievement for $1,000, a scholarship through the Xenodican Club for $500 and the Garfield-Palouse Audio/Visual Club for $500. Parzuchowski will be attending Green River College.
Colton Pfaff received a scholarship through the Palouse Grain Growers for $250 and the Cascade Aircraft Conversions for $500.
Pfaff also received the Tree Keeper’s Blue Scholarship for $5,000. The scholarship was established to encourage the next generation into the trades and entrepreneurship.
Colton Pfaff also received a Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s scholarship for $1,000, the Garfield-Palouse FFA Boosters Memorial for $500, a Whitman County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship for $1,000 and an Orval & Lovilla Austin Endowed Scholarship for $2,400.
Colton Pfaff will be attending Lewis-Clark State College.
Payton Pfaff received the Life Lessons Award for $250 and the Palouse Grain Growers for $250.
Payton Pfaff will be attending Boise State University and is receiving the Summit Scholarship Award at Boise State University for $10,000 per year for four years. Payton has received her CNA license through Clover Park Technical College via Running Start at Palouse High School.
Samantha Pfaff received the Palouse Grain Growers for $250, a State Bank Northwest Memorial Scholarship for $500, a scholarship through Garfield-Palouse Athletic Club (GPAC) for $250, the Garfield-Palouse FFA Boosters for $1,000, a Life Lessons Award for $250 and a scholarship from the Garfield-Palouse Audio/Visual Club for $250.
Samantha Pfaff received offers from University of Idaho, Sarah Lawrence College, Pace University and Whitworth University totaling $315,864, and will be attending University of Connecticut.
Aemon Sena received the Steve Cocking Memorial Scholarship for $250, the Chapter AE, PEO Scholarship for $500 and the William F. Halpin Award for Math and Science.
Sena was offered scholarships from Whitworth University, Stevens Institute of Technology and Reed College totaling $200,000.
Sena will be attending Montana State University, where he is receiving the Montana State University Achievement Award $14,000 per year for four years.
Ainsley Sievers received the Life Lessons Award for $250, the Chapter IO, P.E.O. Scholarship for $500, and a scholarship through the Garfield-Palouse Audio/Visual Club for $500.
Sievers received the Distinguished Young Women of Garfield Palouse for $4,150, the Megistanis Award for $500, the Garfield-Palouse Performing Arts Boosters for $500. A Colfax Thrifty Grandmother’s scholarship for $1,000, a Distinguished Young Women of Washington Overall Scholastic Award for $500.
Siever also received the PEO Star Scholarship for $2,500, and was named a Carson Scholar, in 2023 and 2024 each for $1,000.
She received the Washington Honors Award for ranking in the top 10% of the graduating class in the state of Washington, and was offered scholarships from Boston College, Carroll College, George Washington University, St. John’s College, University of Mary Washington, Washington State University, Cottey College and Lewis-Clark State College totaling $1,061,940.
Sievers is attending Claremont McKenna College where she is receiving an academic scholarship to Claremont McKenna College for $85,098 per year for four years.
Rayona Turner received the Health Care Careers Scholarship for $500.
Turner has received her CNA license through Clover Park Technical College via Running Start at Palouse High School and will be working full-time in the nursing field this fall.
