Runners race to finish line at Slippery Gulch

TEKOA — Runners from across the county filled the street in town as the annual Fun Run commenced on Saturday, June 10, in celebration of Slippery Gulch.

The fun run took runners down Henkle Street through downtown Tekoa on Crosby Street. Runners raced across the roadways until making it to Tekoa’s Trestle.

A turnaround point was just across for those only running the 2-mile, but for those continuing on for the 5-mile run, the path continued through the Palouse to Cascades trail.

According to Slippery Gulch Committee Member Mary Marsh, this year saw the largest number of runners for the fun run.

Winners were organized into age groups and categories.

Here are the results from the 2-mile Fun Run race: Men - 1st Isac Ott 18:15, 2nd Casen Sperber 18:56, 3rd David Jones 31:01; Women - 1st Sydney Hatch 25:01, 2nd Mallory Kramer 27:17, 3rd Jillian Robinson 32:15; Boys Youth - 1st Grady Bucharan 18:06, 2nd Lachlan Robinson 20:06, 3rd Casey McHargue 23:52; Girls Youth - 1st Lily Ott 18:30, 2nd Violet Smith 18:47, 3rd Avery Blank 20:04.

Here are the 5-Mile Fun Run results: Men - 1st Levi Hatch 37:09, 2nd Jordan Nicholson 38:56, 3rd Braxton Monroy 49:14; Women - 1st Lizzy Roy 45:05, 2nd Jessica Roy 53:35, 3rd Ari Roy 1:00:00.
