Sprint boats hit Webb's Slough

Weather featured 'four seasons'

ST. JOHN — Thousands of sprint boat race fans braved what felt like four seasons of weather on Saturday, June 15, to watch the high-speed action at Webb's Slough.

A cold wind blew as rain hit the slough early in the day, followed by a break in the weather with blue skies.

Throughout most of the day, the temperature hovered in the mid-40s, prompting spectators to don coats and wrap themselves in blankets in the blustery weather.

The cold weather brings increased air density, which helped several teams log sub-39 second times.

The No. 86 Juggernaut boat, driven by Jason Christ and navigated by Samantha Christ of Burley, Idaho, won the modified class.

The no. 285 Pure Insanity boat out of Clarkston took first in the 400 class. That boat was driven by River Rogers and navigated by Cole Keatts.

And the No. 96 Starts & Stripes boat won the Unlimited Class. Burt Roberts was the driver and Luke Stweart the navigator.

Official results and times were not available at press time.
