Albion receives grant for road work

Town of Albion to begin project in mid-July

ALBION — The town of Albion has received a grant to have road resurfacing done in mid-July. The method that will be used is called Otta Seal.

According to the Transportation Improvement Board, Otta Seal is a process where a thick application of a specialty oil is laid down and then a medium of rock is poured over it. A road roller presses the gravel down and after a few weeks the excess gravel is swept away.

Although Otta Seal at first appears to be just a gravel road, over time the oils come up and produce the look of a normal paved road. Otta Seal can last up to 8 to 15 years, causing it to have an advantage over chip seal, which has about half the life span.

All but a few dead-end streets in Albion will be Otta Sealed. The Transportation Improvement Board approved a grant for Albion to have this construction done. Construction will begin on July 15th.
