Colfax reseal and gravel project begins

City Public Works started street project

COLFAX — Crews from the Colfax City Public Works department began work on Wednesday, June 26, to re-seal and gravel 35 streets per day throughout town.

Crews will work from McDonald Park to 12th Street and then move to the Thorn Street area. Residents should expect 15-minute delays.

“Our project is putting down a thin layer of oil and gravel to preserve the roads. Our streets are ranked low within Washington, and we got a grant with Ottawa Seal,” said Director Matt Hammer.

Hammer reports that the original application was submitted for $2 million, but the final bid was $888,000.

“This was all through the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board,” said Hammer. The complete project is expected to end sometime in the first half of next week.

Crews will begin in the south side of town and work north. In a few weeks, crews will return to sweep the streets.

“I apologize for the inconvenience. I know parking is going to be tough. Once they get to your neighborhood, they will work through it pretty quickly,” said Hammer.
