Bicycle ride up Steptoe Butte to take place

Ride begins Saturday at 9 a.m.

TEKOA — A bicycle ride up Steptoe Butte is set for 9 a.m. this Saturday, June 29.

Participants will meet at the Rosalia City Park on West 9th Street in Rosalia and will make a 52-mile trek on the backroads to Oakesdale before climbing the spiraling road up Steptoe Butte.

It will be a 14-minute per mile pace on the 4-mile climb. The road up the butte is rough with plenty of potholes with repaving not scheduled until 2025.

The leader of the event is Paul Brunton. Those interested in participating can call him at (509) 953-9564. Heavy rain or wind may cancel the ride and a helmet is required on the trip.

Those looking for more mileage can add about 35 miles to the ride by starting and finishing in Spangle.
