TRAC to offer two new fall youth sports

Planning still in early stages

TEKOA — Two new youth sports are being offered by the Tekoa-Rosalia Athletic Club (TRAC) starting this fall. Flag football will be offered for first through sixth grade boys and soccer will be for kindergarten through sixth graders (5-12 year olds).

Both sports are still in the early planning stages and will gauge the number of teams based on how many athletes sign up to play.

Flag football

Practices for the new flag football league will begin sometime in August and games will be held Saturdays beginning Sept. 14 and ending Oct. 5. Teams will be split into first and second graders; third and fourth graders; and fifth and sixth graders.

There is a cost per athlete, who will receive a jersey. Kids will need to be signed up soon to know how many teams to register.

To register, send a confirmation text or email to Tekoa Coordinators Justin and Jacque Hoffman at (208) 568-0153 or (208) 699-0389, justin@hoffman-mfg.com or jacque@hoffman-mfg.com. Guardians are asked to include the kids’ name, date of birth and grade for Fall 2024, as well as the parent’s names, phone number and email address.

Forms will be sent out via email over the summer and payment will be collected the first week of practice.

Once the number of players is determined for each group, coaches will need to be assigned. Parents are asked to reach out if willing to help volunteer to coach. Volunteer referees are also needed and will need to be certified through the NFL 360 Flag program.

Soccer

TRAC is also beginning a new soccer league this fall. It is in the early stages of planning and needs to make sure there are enough kids for teams.

Teams will be broken into kindergarten and first grade; second and third grade; fourth and fifth grade; and sixth graders. The deadline to register is Saturday, Aug. 31.

Practices will begin after the Palouse Empire Fair on Sept. 8, and games will begin roughly the last Saturday in September through the end of October. All games will be held in Colfax on Saturdays for six weeks.

There is a cost to TRAC for insurance, and there will be an additional cost for jerseys. Shin guards are required.

To indicate if an athlete can play this fall, send a text or email to Tekoa-Rosalia Soccer Coordinator Lisa McGuire at (509) 202-9069 or LNM210215@gmail.com. In the message, parents are asked to include the kids’ name, date of birth, grade for Fall 2024, as well as the parents names, phone numbers and email addresses.

Once the number of teams are established, TRAC will reach out to find volunteer coaches. If interested in coaching, you can text or email with your information.
