Carts stolen from Colfax Golf Course recovered

COLFAX — Missing golf carts and the man who alleged stole them were located over the weekend in tall brush between Glenwood and Dry Creek roads.

Michael D. Rosser, 37, of Garfield, was booked into the Whitman County Jail on three counts of second-degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl and methamphetamine) with intent to deliver.

According to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, on the evening of Sunday, June 30, deputies served a search warrant at a residence in the 5800 block of Garfield Farmington Road to locate additional evidence from the Colfax Golf Course theft earlier June 15 or 16

“Information had been provided to investigators during a separate narcotics-related case that the truck and trailer used in the theft would be located at the residence,” a press release from the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies located the trailer allegedly used in the theft and the truck they believed was used to pull it, the report said. The truck matches the description and images from security footage taken during the theft; however, the cab had been burned and damaged in what appeared to be an effort to hide any identifying information about the vehicle.

Inside the truck and trailer, deputies also located fentanyl and methamphetamine packaged for distribution.

Colfax Golf Course Manager Craig Gronning said Monday, June 24, that he received a text message from officers involved in the investigation, informing him that the carts had been found.

“They found the carts, and we went out and picked them up,” he said.

“Some damage was done to the carts from where they strapped them down," Gronning said. "Basically, cosmetic damage.”

The stolen carts belong to Gary Libey, Randy Davis and Tom Fowler.

Chapman and Gronning also reported that several golf clubs were stolen and are still missing.

"Hopefully, in the upcoming weeks, we can release more information,” Chapman said.
