'Try'-ing their best in St. John

'Try'-athalon held to support SJEL Booster Club

ST. JOHN - The town of St. John was host to the sixth annual "Try"-athalon where people participated in trap shooting, golf and horseshoes to raise funds for the Eagles/Wildcats Sports Booster Club on Saturday, June 29.

Those participating shot a round of trap at the St. John Gun Club before heading to the Golf Course for nine rounds and finishing at the fairgrounds for horseshoes. There was also a silent auction and live music from Rockwell Band.

The Best Lady of the day went to Tracy Montague, and the Best Gentleman was Matt Webb. He had the best overall score of the day.

This is the sixth year the event has taken place and it raised $3,922 for St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse sports. There were 19 participants total.

Micah Lupo, President of the Booster Club and an organizer of the event said she is thankful to all who participated and for those who helped make the event happen.

"Thank you to all the businesses and everyone who rallied behind our student-athletes and make St. John what we are," Lupo said."

Another event just down the road was the St. John Summer Dayz Car Show. There were several indifidual class winners awarded for their vehicles.

The top winners are as follows:

Best of show, Kyle Hussey of Ephrata, Wash., with a 1953 Buick Riviera; Peoples Choice, Shawny Fredricks of Post Falls, Idaho with a '57 T-Bird; Best Ford, Buz LeBret of Grand Coulee, Wash., with a 1969 Mustang Mach 1; Best Chevy, Forrest Anderson of Spokane with a 1960 Chevy Biscayne; Best Mopar, Rick Arnett of Lewiston, Idaho with a 1933 Dodge Sedan.
