Garfield hosts community yard sale next weekend

Maps available day of yard sale at Schaut’s Market

GARFIELD –– The July calendar wouldn’t be complete without—drumroll, please—the Annual City-Wide Yard Sales event, sponsored by Community of Garfield Association (CGA), which will be held a week from this Saturday on July 27.

In addition to the yard sales around town, this year, the CGA will join the fun by sponsoring its own Rummage Sale at the Garfield-Elberton Museum (GEM), located on 3rd Street across from the Garfield Library. The CGA decided to add its Rummage Sale to the sales around town to provide a place for people who want to clean out their unused “treasures” without holding their own sale. Donations of clothing, small appliances, household items, kids’ stuff, and books can be dropped off at the museum the day before, on Friday, July 26, from 1:30 t0 7:30 p.m. During the Rummage Sale, the museum’s Greg Partch will be on hand to show people around the site and answer questions.

CGA’s PR Representative, Sarah Anderson, is excited about this event, “I love our community and want it to grow and succeed. The CGA is putting good ideas into action, including working to gain a grant through Innovia’s “Community Heart and Souls Program.” Sarah, and the other board members, Lacen Workman, Valerie Grindle, Betty Walden, Shon Clark and Kelsey Clark, have a list of long-term goals that include funding a scholarship program, purchasing a reader board to advertise events, and town beautification projects.

To sign up to be included on the Yard Sale list, visit Schaut’s Market, 210 West California Street by Friday, July 26 (the day before the sale); a $2 donation is requested. The maps will be available the day of the sale at Schaut’s Market and The Garfield-Elberton Museum (GEM), located on 3rd Street across from the Garfield Library.
