Colfax's Summerfest event this weekend

Festivities kick off Friday night, into weekend

COLFAX — Summerfest is back again for another year, with a weekend of family festivities and fun planned.

Festivities will take place on Saturday, July 27 starting at 10 a.m., with all day activities.

Chamber of Commerce President Gary Young said that several events will happen on Friday, July 26, including a chance to learn swing dance at the Eagles for free.

Activities for all ages start at 10 a.m. on July 27, including bouncy houses, Otter Pops and giveaways hosted by the First Baptist Church, 200 North Mill Street.

The Summerfest Main Street Parade hosted by the Colfax Downtown Association is set to take place at 11 a.m.

Young said that the Eagles will also be hosting vendors in their event center when the parade starts. “They’ve got a dance as well, start at 5 or 6 o’clock,” he said.

Summerfest attendees can visit the Colfax library from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to spin a prize wheel, shop for books, stay hydrated and join in a chalk mosaic.

Several local businesses are hosting sales for this year’s Summerfest including the Coco Bee from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

A sidewalk sale will take place at 11 a.m. for Tick Klock Drug, and Appel Heights will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with fresh ice cream, milk, eggs, flour, sourdough, cookies, lemonade and more.

The Mercantile will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a sale.

Chamber of Commerce President Gary Young said that they are running beach ball bingo this year where people can shop and fill out a bingo card with stamps for kids.

“They can go to different businesses in Colfax and get them to fill out their bingo card,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Katrina Johnson, “They can turn it on the day of Summerfest to win a free popsicle.”

“We also have a 50/50 raffle that we will draw on Saturday,” said Young.

Young said that a raffle ticket is $10 and purchasers can earn up to 50 percent of the proceeds which will go towards funding free movies in the park.

Johnson said that they will not be doing Corks and Caps this year, shifting their focus to the bingo-theme scavenger hunt.

“We’re looking forward to Saturday and we’re looking forward to seeing you there with your bingo cards,” Johnson said.
