Fraud prevention seminar in Colfax

COLFAX — In response to growing concerns about scams, the Council on Aging and Human Services is hosting a Fraud Prevention Seminar at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22.

The event will be held at 121 North Main Street, Colfax.

The seminar aims to help individuals, particularly seniors, protect themselves from fraud.

“We were asked by some senior clients for such a thing because they are running into a lot of scam calls and emails,” said Paige Collins, Executive Director of the Council on Aging and Human Services.

Collins noted that even those who handle these issues professionally can fall victim, adding, “Believe it or not, they catch seniors all the time.”

The event will feature tips from local experts.

Kathy Wride from Umpqua Bank will advise safeguarding personal accounts and information, while Debbie Niehenke from the Colton Post Office will offer guidance on identifying and avoiding mail scams.

“It is to keep your money safe,” Collins said. “They are getting really tricky.”

The seminar is free and open to all.

Attendees will also enjoy a complimentary senior meal featuring German sausage, sauerkraut, potato salad, apple slices and Jell-o.

“It is a good opportunity to check out our regular senior meal,” Collins added.
