Teams from seven age groups battled to the top of the tourney
PULLMAN - Reaney Park was host to the Gritman Medical 3-on-3 Lentil Festival Hoop Classic, presented by Idaho Central Credit Union on Saturday, Aug. 17.
There were seven total tournaments for different boys and girls age groups at the festival. The best ballers soon rose to the top of the brackets to be crowned champions.
Boys 3rd and 4th grade
The Palouse Cougars 4th - Cay defeated the LCV Warriors, 20-7, in the championship game of the boys 3rd and 4th grade tournament.
The Cougars defeated the War Party Scouts, 20-14 in the opening round. They went on to defeat the Pullman Warriors, 19-13, in the quarterfinals and beat the LCV Warriors, 20-7, in the semifinals.
The LCV Warriors defeated the Fireballerz, 20-4, in the opening round, then went on to beat the Palouse Cougars Crimson, 18-16, in the quarterfinals. After falling to would-be champions in the semifinals, the LCV Warriors moved to the loser-out bracket where they defeated the Rivertown Warriors, 17-13, to get to the championship game.
Girls 3rd and 4th grade
Three teams played in the girls 3rd and 4th grade tournament at the Lentil Festival. Round-robin games were played to start the tournament to determine seeding.
While the Lady Cats went 0-2 in the round-robin pool, they rose the ranks and ended up winning the tournament.
Sweetwater defeated the Court Queens, 20-2, to open round-robin play. The Court Queens beat the Lady Cats, 17-2, and Sweetwater defeated the Lady Cats, 11-10, giving Sweetwater the top seed and a bye into the semifinals.
In the opening round of the bracket, the Lady Cats defeated the Court Queens, 20-8, and beat Sweetwater, 12-5, in the semifinal. Sweetwater defeated the Court Queens on the other side of the bracket in the semifinals.
In the championship game, the Lady Cats defeated Sweetwater, 14-8, to become champions.
Boys 5th and 6th grade
The Moscow Lakers fell to the Brick Layers in a semifinal matchup, but with it being a double-loss elimination tournament, the Lakers came back and beat the Brick Layers twice to emerge as champions of the boys 5th and 6th grade tournament.
The Lakers defeated Pullman, 9-6, in the opening round and beat the Doggs, 20-18, to set up the first matchup against the Brick Layers in the semifinals. The Brick Layers defeated the Bad Boys, 20-15, in the first round, and beat We Are Groot, 20-5, in Round 2 to face the Lakers.
In the semifinal game, the Brick Layers beat the Lakers, 20-17. In the first championship game, the Lakers beat the Brick Layers, 20-18, then became victorious again, winning 14-12 to become champions.
Girls 5th and 6th grade
The Little Legends defeated three teams on their way to becoming champions of the girls 5th and 6th grade tournament.
They defeated the Lil' Bears, 13-1, in the opening round, then went on to beat the Lewiston Net Ripperz, 9-6, in the semifinals. The Little Legends won the championship game against H.W.P.O., 10-4, to win the tournament.
The H.W.P.O. had a tough tournament to fight through to make it to the championship game.
The team fell to the Lewiston Net Ripperz, 8-7, in the opening round and moved to the loser-out bracket. H.W.P.O then climbed the ladder, winning the next four games to get to the championship.
H.W.P.O. beat the Lil' Bears, 12-7, the Nacho Ball, 12-8, the Lil' Bears again, 20-5, and avenged its loss to the Net Ripperz, beating them 11-7 in the semifinal.
Boys 7th and 8th grade
The Palouse Cougars 8th graders defeated Hoopernatural, 20-10, in the semifinals and again, 20-14, in the championship game to become winners of the boys 7th and 8th grade tournament.
The Cougars received a bye in the first round and beat the Brain Rot Elite, 20-14, in Round 2 to make it to the semifinal game against Hoopernatural.
Hoopernatural also received a bye in the first round, and beat Just Here For Fun, 20-14, to get to the quarterfinals. The team beat the Palouse Cougars 7th graders, 20-10, to move on to face the Cougars 8th graders for the first time in the semifinal.
Girls 7th and 8th grade
After falling to the Storm earlier in the tournament, the team Dunk4Jesus had to come back and win twice in the championship round to become winners of the girls 7th and 8th grade bracket.
Dunk4Jesus beat the Dream Team, 9-8, in the opening round, then defeated the Hot Shots, 14-12, in Round 2. Dunk4Jesus lost to the Storm, 11-7, in the quarterfinals, but eventually climbed the ladder to make it to the championship. They beat the Hot Shots, 19-1, the Lewis-Clark Warriors, 13-8, and the H.W.P.O., 14-6, to again face the Storm in the championship.
The Storm beat the Lewis-Clark Warriors, 16-14, in their first game of the tournament. The Storm beat Dunk4Jesus, 11-17, in the quarterfinals and beat H.W.P.O., 20-16, in the semifinals.
Dunk4Jesus beat the Storm, 15-10, in the first championship game, and beat them again, 12-10, in the final matchup to become winners of the tournament.
Boys High School
The Panda Eagles went undefeated on their way to winning the championship of the boys high school bracket of the 3-on-3 Lentil Festival tournament. A round-robin pool determined seeding for the bracket.
The Panda Eagles beat the Rim Reapers, 20-8, and defeated the Net Rippers, 20-15, in round-robin play. The Net Rippers beat the Rim reapers, 20-14, in the other round-robin game.
To start the bracket, the Net Rippers beat the Rim Reapers, 16-10, in the first round. The Panda Eagles beat the Net Rippers, 20-14, to make it to the championship game. The Rim Reapers then beat the Net Rippers, 16-13, for a championship matchup against the Panda Eagles.
In the final bout, the Panda Eagles defeated the Rim Reapers, 20-10, to win the tournament.
