Monstars, Carl's Beards win Lentil Festival softball tourneys

PULLMAN - Softball teams vied to become champions in two tournaments of the Lentil Festival on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Three teams played in the men's bracket, and four teams played in the coed tournament.

For the coed bracket, the Monstars defeated Carlson Gunsmithing, 13-11, in the championship game. To get there, the Monstars beat the Steelhead, 13-0, in the opening round and beat Carlson Gunsmithing, 14-6, in the semifinal.

Carlson Gunsmithing beat Combined Forces, 9-6, in the first round, fell to the Monstars in the semifinal, then won the next two games to make it to the championship. They beat Combined Forces, 21-1, and the Steelhead, 24-3, in the loser-out bracket semifinal.

In the men's bracket, round-robin play determined seeding on the bracket. Each team went 1-1 in the round-robin pool.

Blue Ballers beat Carl's Beards, 13-15; Garden Lounge beat Blue Ballers, 16-11; Carl's Beards beat Garden Lounge, 17-12, for the round-robin.

Carl's Beards beat Garden Lounge, 27-7, in the opening round of the bracket. Carl's Beards then won the championship game against the Blue Ballers, 17-8, to become winners of the tournament at Wiley Field in Pullman.
