Demolition will make way for improvements to the site
COLFAX - Golfers playing through yelling "fore!" was not the only sound at the Colfax Golf and Country Club the past few days.
An old golf course clubhouse is being torn down to make way for improvements.
"The golf course started in 1927 and I think it was built before that," Levi Coe said. "So, things were starting to creak and stuff."
The Colfax Golf Course is host to the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championships, and has been for the last few years. The demolition of the building will make way for more parking and possibly a cart shed.
"I've heard different things, I've been told it's going to be parking, and then they're going to add more cart sheds on one side or the other," Coe said. "Our (membership) numbers are up and a lot of people want somewhere to store their carts, so they're going to add more of those."
Coe said the cart sheds would probably be built next spring.
The razing of the building shouldn't take long, as about half the building was gone by Monday afternoon. The cleanup is estimated to be done within a few days.
While watching the demolition, people remembered their time in the old building.
"A lot of memories," Coe said. "We just found a stack of old photos that showed when the course was flooded, water was covering the whole thing then froze over. So, kind of a reminiscing of all the old memories in there."
Coe said they kept a brick from the chimney of the building so they could still have a piece of it to live on.
"It felt a little more homey, had some more character - but I guess it's time for a change," Coe said.
