Moscow aquatic center to host canine fundraiser

Humane Society hosts pool jumping contest for dogs

MOSCOW — The Humane Society of the Palouse is once again teaming up with the City of Moscow Parks and Recreation to host the annual Howling at Hamilton, a canine-focused fundraiser set to take place on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The event will be held at the Hamilton-Lowe Aquatics Center, located at 830 N. Mountain View Road, and will run from 1 to 6 p.m.

Howling at Hamilton began in 2008 and has become a beloved tradition for local dog owners and their furry companions.

According to the Humane Society of the Palouse, over 340 dogs attended last year’s event, making it one of the most popular canine events in the area.

The day is filled with activities that allow dogs to cool off in the water, enjoy the shade, and showcase their leaping abilities during a pool-jumping contest scheduled for 5 p.m. Idaho Central Credit Union will provide prizes for the contest.

Only dogs are allowed in the pool during the event, but their human companions are encouraged to join in on the fun.

Admission is charged per dog, and at least one person must accompany each dog. While humans attend for free, donations are welcome and appreciated.

Tickets can be purchased in advance through the Humane Society of the Palouse’s website or at the gate, with payment options including cash, card or check.

This fundraiser, made possible by the support of the City of Moscow and the Parks and Recreation department, marks the final day of the season for the Hamilton-Lowe Aquatics Center before the pools are drained and winter preparations begin.

Proceeds from Howling at Hamilton will go directly to the Humane Society of the Palouse, helping to cover essential costs such as food, veterinary care and supplies needed to care for the hundreds of lost and homeless pets the organization supports each year.
