Environmental Resilience Commission to meet

Meeting will take place Friday, Sept. 6

PULLMAN — The Environmental Resilience Commission will hold its next meeting at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, in Council Chambers, City Hall, 190 SE Crestview Street, Building A.

The meeting will include roll call, approval of minutes from the previous session and a review of the City Council’s recent updates and the Commission’s 2024 objectives.

During the Friday, Aug. 2, meeting, the Commission discussed several important matters, including updates from the July 30 City Council meeting, where resolutions on cost distribution to the Pullman Wastewater Treatment facility and creating a fee for bio-solid hauling were approved.

Commissioner Larry Clark was designated as the primary contact for future City Council updates.

The August meeting also highlighted the progress of a community survey, which has received 53 responses so far, and a discussion about potentially hosting a booth at the Lentil Festival to increase engagement through a QR code system.

The Youth Environmental Council’s mission statement and application were approved unanimously.

The Commission also considered creating a permanent staff position and discussing its potential alignment with the Public Works department.

Public Works Director Sean Wells has been requested to attend the next meeting to discuss this topic further.

Upcoming meetings are scheduled for 3 p.m. on Oct. 4, Nov. 1 and Dec. 6.

Commissioner Stephen Johnson noted a conflict for the October meeting.

The Sept. 6 meeting will feature public comment, discussions on the next agenda, and updates on the City Council’s actions. It will conclude with a motion to adjourn.

The commission members expected to be in attendance include Chair Larry Clark, Vice-Chair Lauren Kirkpatrick, Secretary Tianyi Chen; and members Azdren Coma, Stephen Johnson and Charles Ugwu.
