Colfax volleyball to build on its success

The team took third at state last season

COLFAX - Practice is underway and the first match of the season is right around the corner for the Colfax volleyball team.

Last season, the Bulldogs went 20-4 on their way to become district champions, second in the Northeast 2B league and placed third at the state tournament. The team is led by Head Coach Megan Dorman, assisted by Allie Cofer and Amy Simmons.

This is Dorman's second year as the Colfax head coach. She has an overall record of 38-7.

"Our goal for this season is to be competitive in our half of the league," Dorman said. "We'd like to be in the top four of the tougher south division of the Northeast 2B league and be able to play for a spot at state. We are looking to work hard and improve on our serving and defense throughout the season."

Last season, the team graduated starters Lauryn York, Hailey Demler and Hope Fulfs. This year, seniors include Ava Swan at middle hitter, Brenna Gilchrist at libero, Karly Wigen at middle hitter, Marchele McNeilly at outside hitter and Dory Doty at defensive specialist. Expected contributors to the team includes junior setter and defensive specialist Isabella Huntley, and sophomore outside hitter Avery Andrus.

The Bulldogs open the season with a home match at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 against Upper Columbia Academy and will again play in Colfax at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 against Pullman.

"We are excited for the season," Dorman said.
