Timberwolves ready to pounce

Majority of players are back this season

ROSALIA - The Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves volleyball team retained most of their roster from last season and will be looking to improve its notches in the win column.

Last season, the Timberwolves had six wins, double from the year before with three. That success is something Head Coach Sara Chase would like to keep building on for her team.

"Our goal for the season is to increase our offensive strength and speed," Chase said. "And to make it to district playoffs."

Chase is in her second year as head coach and is assisted by Kendyl Dodge.

Tekoa-Rosalia only graduated one senior last year in Marissa Alonso. This paves the way for several veteran players to step up and be leaders.

Prospective starters this year are Denali Chase, McKinley Chase, Kayla Eliertson, Libby Lehn, Abby McGuire, Clare Wilkins and Briley Smith. Key newcomers and expected contributors to the team include Megan Maley, Jorian Abdnor and Kinsey Hudkins. The total roster is 25 players.

"We have a lot of depth to our roster," Chase said. "Our team strengths are perseverance and to keep going and giving it their all during tough matches."

Chase said the team is still learning how to effectively communicate and completely work together as a team. The Timberwolves will look to be a solid unit come playoff time.

Tekoa-Rosalia opens the season with a home match at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, against Chesterton in Tekoa. The Timberwolves will then travel to Pomeroy for an away match at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, before returning home for a match against Dayton at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, in Rosalia.
